Hiatus
Sorry guys, I won't be doing reviews for a while. I just don't have the time to dedicate to everything I want to do. If you're interested in what I'm doing instead, check out ZGcreations.com

Evil Dead REDBAND trailer
This trailer has been floating around for a little while, now. I shared it over on my tumblr page (which you should follow by clicking here). It's not the first trailer we've seen, but it's the one that definitely hooked me. Check it out before I start to ramble about it.
Now I will fully admit that I was one of the naysayers back when this was first announced, with my only caveat being that if they took the same basic plot and did it in a way that was actually frightening and disturbing then it might be ok, since the original was trying to do that but really just ended being enjoyably campy instead. That, and NOBODY can be Ash besides Bruce Campbell (and maybe that one girl from Mass Effect).
That being said, it seems like the filmmakers thought the exact same thing, because that's what they're doing. They're making an Evil Dead movie that's violent, disturbing, and SCARY (yeah yeah, that's subjective but you get what I mean). This trailer hit the nail on the head. It's got enough reverence for the original to keep fans happy, but done in a totally different way, and done in conjunction with a lot of new, creative, and disturbing things.
The thing that really makes me happy to see is everything with the girl in the cellar, especially when she begins to sing that song from the original. THAT completely captured the spirit of The Evil Dead. Awesome.
If you're interested in reading more about this film, a friend of mine did a set visit for Shock Till You Drop that you might want to check out.

Indie Film Recommendations 2012
I'm trying something a bit different this year. I wanted to highlight some smaller films that might not have made my top 10 list, but I still feel that there's enough creativity and merit in each of these that they deserve the chance to be seen.
And if you want to see some more in-depth thoughts, click here for a playlist of my reviews of the movies mentioned
